2007 National WYSE Week Announcing Our National Movement
The National Movement brings together the woman-power from branches around the country to foster social change via community action projects and thoughtful discussion on one issue.
This year, WYSE branch directors voted for "Community Appreciation and involvement," and it’s time to get moving! The National Movement is designed to be modified to fit each school and grade as they best see fit, while maintaining a sense of unity within WYSE mentors and mentees across the nation. Branches are free to choose a community and activity(s) that works best with each group. Also, the national movement can be incorporated into many/all sessions over the course of the year, or given it’s own session, whichever works best for your circumstances.
Mission: To recognize WYSE as a national phenomenon and join together to progress a unified cause across the country.
Purpose: To reflect upon our communities and appreciate all the communities we are a part of, and what they do for us. Similarly, to express that appreciation and to give back, by involving ourselves actively in a community of our choosing.
National Leadership Training Conference August 10th - 13th UCLA
One of WYSE's primary functions during the course of each year is to present a Leadership Training Conference where the incoming mentors for the coming year are invited to participate, learn training and leadership skills and exchange ideas with other current and former mentors. The Leadership Training Conference is held each year in August prior to the commencement of the school year for our participating colleges. It will be held this year from August 10th to 13th at University of California Los Angeles with the theme of “Learn, Plan, & Share.” During these four days, mentors will participate in formal and informal training sessions and discussion forums where they will learn about themselves as leaders, what it takes to run a WYSE branch and how to address the various issues faced by the junior high school mentees. Every year, we have received overwhelming positive feedback on the value that these four days have provided for the branches and individual participants. WYSE makes it a priority to not only use this time as a preparation for the upcoming school year, but also a way to explore the fundamentals of leadership that transcend beyond our particular organization. In our fifteen years of existence we are proud to have supported women and girls in the guidance, training and assistance needed to become active members of the community. We see this conference as one key factor in our success because it focuses on training leaders to train and mentor other leaders in their branches and beyond.
