The WYSE curriculum was developed by mentors, mentees, teachers and community members. It is designed to be active, fun, and educational, with a pro-active, movement-based message. The philosophy behind the curriculum is to empower young women by first having them think critically about themselves and their identity, to break down messages fed to them by peers, family, school, society and the media
Middle School Curriculum The Middle School Curriculum is divided into 4 units: 1. Self-Awareness and Self-Confidence Building 2. Sexual Health and Decision-Making 3. Broader Women's Issues and Future Options 4. The End of the Year Project
The curriculum consists of seventeen sessions and spans one academic year, so that every WYSE branch has an opportunity to complete the sessions and have enough time to focus on the End of the Year Project. The End of the Year Project is planned and implemented by the mentees with the mentors’ guidance. The mentors devote at least three sessions to doing this project. In addition to the 17 required sessions, additional sessions are conducted to better serve and educate the girls. These additional sessions include: Drugs and Alcohol Terrorism, War and Racial Profiling Depression, Bi-polar Disorder and Suicide Financial Literacy Gangs Gays, Lesbians and Transgender People
